AWARDS AND RECOGNITION CEREMONY

The following individuals from the Joint Munitions Command (JMC) received awards and recognition during a December 10 ceremony on Rock Island Arsenal.

Length of Service Award

Presented to Jyll L. Abbott, of, Andalusia, Ill., for 30 years of service.

Presented to Melissa Sharp, of Moline, for 30 years of service.

Presented to Judy T. Woodson, of Davenport, for 30 years of service.

Presented to William A. Metcalf, of Bettendorf, for 25 years of service.

Presented to Charles D. Whitley, Jr., of East Moline, for 25 years of service.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate Awards

Presented to William (Tad) Holburn, of Andulusia, Ill., and Dr. Barbara Carlock of Geneseo, Ill., for successfully completing all U.S. Army Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification requirements.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate Awards

Presented to Michael A. Dunn, of Davenport; David Enders of Princeton, Iowa; Carrie Krulik, of Davenport; Rudy Toth, of Moline; and Ron Wuorinen, of Bettendorf; for successfully completing all U.S. Army Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification requirements.

Presented to Debbie Chebuhar, of LeClaire, Iowa; Amy Duwa of Bettendorf; Marcia Hare, of Davenport; Doug Humphrey, of Milan, Ill.; Ngoc Le, of Davenport; Brenda Seyller, of East Moline; and Patty Skahill, of Davenport, for winning the Secretary of the Army Award for Organizational Excellence in Manpower and Force Management.

Army Commendation Medal

Presented to U.S. Army Sustainment Command's Sgt. Maj. Lon D. Culbreath, of Rock Island Arsenal and Middletown, Ohio, for exceptionally meritorious performance as acting command sergeant major for the Joint Munitions Command. He flawlessly executed numerous changes of command and management, including those at Pine Bluff Arsenal, Ark.; Milan Army Ammunition Plant, Milan, Tenn.; and Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Middleton, Iowa.

Achievement Medal for Civilian Service

Presented to Tamara K. O'Meara of Silvis, for leading her team in an exemplary manner, providing great expertise in effectively managing team workload, training new employees and interns, recognizing employee efforts, and providing outstanding customer support.

Presented to James L. Bertelsen of Coal Valley, Ill., Eugene F. Fildes of Moline, and Jay A. Lundberg of Milan, Ill., for planning and execution of the removal and shipment of industrial stocks located at Kansas and Lone Star Army Ammunition plants in accordance with Base Realignment and Closure 2005 law.

Presented to Rickey A. Peer of Davenport, while serving as a supervisory ammunition program integration specialist, Ammunition Depot Automation Project office.

Presented to Amy E. Duwa of Bettendorf, Ngoc T. Le of Davenport, Erin N. Leibrandt of Bettendorf, Brenda A. Seyller of East Moline, and Bruce W. Thomas of Davenport, for their part of a team that created Recruitment Analysis Package (RAP), which is a strategic tool used by management for recruitment and used in the decision making process on, restructuring and revitalization of the workforce.

Presented to Don Earley (Team Leader) of Annawan, Ill., and Joy Fleming of Rock Island, for their efforts in executing the Joint Munitions Command fiscal year 2009 Army Working Capital fund budget.

Commander's Award for Civilian Service

Presented to Vickie Belman, of East Moline, Ill., for contributing significantly to the success of the command's mandatory training program.

Presented to Michael Dunn, of Davenport; for his involvement in a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project to improve the benefits validation process resulting in the close-out of 70 projects.

Presented to Gary Mosher, of Bettendorf; for providing key assistance as an installation advocate for early closure of Kansas, Lone Star, and Mississippi Army Ammunition plants.

Department of the Army Retirement Certificates

Presented to Debra Fordham, of Eldridge, Iowa , for 36 years, two months of government service.

1862 -- 150 years ago: A barrel of lard was stolen from the porch of a house on Madison Street last Tuesday night.

1887 -- 125 years ago: A. M. Hubbard, of Moline, yesterday was elected president of the Rock Island County Old Settlers Society.

1912 -- 100 years ago: The Men's Club of Trinity Episcopal Church will present a minstrel at the Illinois Theater on Feb. 15.

1937 -- 75 years ago: Thomas P. Sinnett, of Rock Island, former state legislator, has been named president of the newly organized Quad-City Illini Club.

1962 -- 50 years ago: Lie-detector tests are scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday for about a half-dozen people in the investigation of a shortage in the Rock Island County Clerk's Office. It was indicated today that all people concerned, including the discharged chief deputy clerk, will take the tests willingly.

1987 -- 25 years ago: The late Doris Dammann Day, former chairman of Bear Manufacturing Inc., Rock Island, has bequeathed $10 million from her estate to a nonprofit foundation in her and her husband's name. Mrs. Day, who died Jan. 20 at age 79, left nearly her entire estate to the Doris and Victor Day Foundation Inc. to be used for charitable, religious, scientific, literary or educational projects.
