Community Colleges host Discover Your Future event
Press release submitted by Eastern Iowa Community College District
Getting a job that pays well and you enjoy doing, that's the real reason people go to college.
Whether it's short-term training, a two-year technical education, or a bachelor's, master's or even doctorate degree, students can start at home at Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges. To help in choosing the right path, the three colleges are hosting a Discover Your Future event on December 1, from 5 – 7 p.m.
The event will be held at each of the college campuses. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the career programs available at the site they visit, as well as any of the more than 50 programs available throughout the three colleges.
"Our enrollment increased 21 percent this year so it's obvious that people have discovered the value of our colleges," said Eastern Iowa Community College District Assistant Director for Enrollment Management Erin Snyder. "Both our career programs and our college transfer program increased in enrollment this past fall. And we've increased in all age groups as well.
"Affordability is certainly one of the main reasons they are coming to us," she said. "Students and their families are realizing that they can save hundreds of dollars and get the same quality education by staying close to home."
Tuition at Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges is among the lowest in the state and there are many financial aid opportunities. Advisors will be on hand at each location during the Discover Your Future event to discuss schedule planning and financial aid.
The three colleges maintain formal transfer agreements with all of the area colleges and state universities. This makes it easy for students to transfer their credits to a four-year institution once they graduate from one of the community colleges.
For students interested in direct entry into the job market, the colleges offer a wide range of short-term training programs, some in as little as 10 weeks. Online classes have also become a popular option for people needing to fit training around a busy work and family schedule.
Discover Your Future is open to students wanting to begin their education in January or are looking forward to what they want to do next fall. Spring session classes begin January 13.
Those who have already made the decision to begin classes this spring are encouraged to contact the colleges now to make a registration appointment In addition to helping ease the scheduling process, registering early also provides students with sufficient time to complete the financial aid process.
