Faith in Action wins some support
Senior citizens in Upper Rock Island County with special needs have new hope a helpful service will continue.
Faith in Action of the QC, headquartered in Port Byron, which has assisted senior and handicapped residents for years, said recently it was disbanding because of lack of funds.
. But, at a recent meeting, Faith in Action director Elizabeth Saelens told volunteers and handicapped seniors that recent newspaper articles and TV coverage led to $20,000 in pledges.
Most of the funds pledged require matches, Ms. Saelens said, and for the foundation to continue providing services, the $20,000 must be matched by the end of the calendar year. She said the annual budget of $12,000 only pays for insurance, liability, auto, phone and van licensing and miscellaneous office expense. Additional monies are needed to keep the foundation solvent for a number of years.
She has hope that some Quad Cities businesses will contribute and pointed out that contributions, no matter how small, are significant. She urged everyone to ask friends and neighbors for $5 and $10 donations.
Faith in Action of the QC, a branch of the EH Spencer Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, provides transportation, light housekeeping, yard work and daytime respite care for seniors with special needs.
