Letter: Politics of liberal 'flying saucers' have put our nation in peril
"The Liberals are the flying saucers of politics. No one can make head nor tail of them and they never are seen twice in the same place." -- John G. Diefenbaker
Liberals/progressives are irritable people, plagued by guilt feelings, and with way too much time on their hands. We could be content to let them be miserable in solitude, but they have an annoying penchant for insisting that the rest of us perpetually atone for their sins in the fashion and to the extent they specify. They constantly meddle in our affairs to everyone's extreme detriment. Two millennia ago, an atonement was made which was once for all and can never be duplicated. Liberal schemes must, therefore, fail; no matter how rigorously and sincerely pursued. They don't deal in facts, preferring to resort to character assassination and personal insults.
Liberal hubris is infinite and liberals firmly believe their ways of dealing with society's problems is uniquely correct, even though these plans and techniques have been tried and always fail. Few, if any, liberals voluntarily pay more taxes or go the extra mile for the betterment of others. Instead, they exempt themselves from burdensome rules they impose on you and me. The people with whom the president has surrounded himself are a cogent case-in-point.
History is to be ignored or routinely and arbitrarily altered. What actually happened is inconvenient to them because it consistently puts the lie to the selfish schemes and plans they so adamantly promote. America's founding fathers conceived a great constitutional republic which has worked for more than two centuries but is now in great peril because of the ignorance, apathy, and wrong-thinking of too many people who don't understand anything of America's sage underpinning or why we remain more free, more successful and more prosperous than any other society on Earth.
Many brave and honorable people have sacrificed real blood and real treasure for the freedoms you and your loved-ones enjoy. Each of us must stand up to the rabid ideologues who strive to (in their fruitless attempts to salve their own guilty consciences) replace our mantle of freedom with the chains of slavery. We couldn't atone for their guilt – even if we wanted to. Don't be passive and let them enslave you! The only freedom not in jeopardy is the freedom to be torpid, stupid and blindly submissive. If America falls to socialism, to where then can we go?
