Press release submitted by Crystal Kehoe, youth librarian, Scott County Library System.

ELDRIDGE --The Scott County Library System is constantly looking for new ideas to provide fun ways for visitors to explore learning and using their imagination. The Eldridge Branch is currently seeking to start a monthly event surrounding the well-loved Lego and Duplo blocks. In order to make this happen, the Scott County Library System is seeking donations of used Legos and Duplos of any type or quantity.

If adequate donations are received, the Library System, will model their club after a program highlighted in a July 2009 "School Library Journal" article. Participants in the "Lego at the Library" club will be challenged at each event to build a creation on a monthly theme. The block creations will then be photographed and highlighted each month on the library website. "We feel that this is a fantastic way to inspire the imaginations of builders of all ages," says Youth Librarian, Crystal Kehoe. The club will introduce the theme through library materials and then let the participant's imaginations run wild. "We know that there are many unused sets of these fun blocks in families' storage and we are offering them a place to come to life again," continues Kehoe. Donations are being accepted at the Scott County Library System branches in Eldridge, Blue Grass, Buffalo, Durant, Princeton, and Walcott.
