Experience da Vinci Surgery System at open house Nov. 8

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Nov. 4, 2009 -- Genesis Medical Center will demonstrate the da Vinci Surgery System at a public open house on Sunday, Nov. 8. The da Vinci will be set up in the main lobby of Genesis East campus from 1-3 p.m. Doctors who use the da Vinci system will be available to demonstrate the capabilities of the system and to answer questions. Genesis East is located at 1227 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Visitors should use the South Entrance and follow the signs. Da Vinci offers the most precise, minimally invasive procedure for hysterectomies and prostatectomies. With the da Vinci system, patients can benefit from a faster recovery time, a shorter hospital stay, less pain, less scarring and a quicker return to normal activity Currently, the majority of hysterectomies are performed through 5-6 inch abdominal incisions, resulting in significant postoperative convalescence, pain, loss of blood and scarring. With da Vinci, physicians use remote controls to guide electromechanically enhanced surgical instruments. The console is linked to a surgical cart at the patient's bedside, which features four robotic arms that position and maneuver miniaturized, wristed instruments and the 3D camera. The physician's hand movments translate into precise, real-time movements, allowing for greater accuracy. Da Vinci is sometimes referred to as "robotic surgery" but the surgeon is always in control of the movements of the micro-instruments.
