BETTENDORF -- The Bettendorf Public Library has received a $5,000 Community Grant from Best Buy Co., Inc. Best Buy leaders at store 22 in Davenport, selected the Library from submitted proposal requests because of their dedication to empowering young teens to excel in school, engage in their community, and develop leadership skills. A presentation ceremony was Nov 5 at the Bettendorf Public Library.

Best Buy and Bettendorf Public Library have a solid history of working together to make our community more technologically literate. This new endeavor will help local teens find a place at the library that meets their growing needs. This grant will help establish a collection of materials on video games, and other related subjects. It will also help the library in building video game tournaments for the Quad City area. As patrons' interests evolve so should the Library's, and with these funds the Library will be reaching out toward teens as well as supplying them with a space to empower themselves and to develop their own community.

The Best Buy Community Grants Program is led by employee committees in each of the company's eight territories across the United States. Best Buy believes its employees are best able to build and maintain lasting community partnerships and should be empowered to help direct funding to nonprofit organizations in their communities through Community Grants.
