The exhibit willl be on display Nov. 23 - Dec. 31.
This exhibition features 11 large oil paintings started in the rain or water in Denali National Park, and Healy, Alaska in the spring of 2008. This series focuses on my impressions of the uniqueness of the landscape in and around Denali National Park.
My "Untitled dialogue" paintings are collaborations with nature, made using water-soluble, non-toxic oils, and painting in the rain, snow or at the water's edge and working with the waves as they wash over the canvas. Some of my co-artists include the Mississippi River, Lake Superior, Lake of the Woods; Ontario, Lake Otto; Alaska, and the Caribbean Sea. I am trying to capture a dialogue between my marks and nature's influence used as a medium. These paintings become the product of the reality of the moment.
Emily Christenson has been a co-owner of doeGALLERY in Bucktown Center for the Arts since the building opened. After 4 years doeGALLERY has expanded and Emily Christenson is opening her own studio/gallery space also on the 2nd floor. This exhibition is also a grand opening of her new studio space.
