Schwiebert Riverfront Park Naming and Dedication

Rock Island's newest park, located on the riverfront between 17th and 20th Streets, was officially named Schwiebert Riverfront Park at a ceremony on October 23 honoring former mayor, Mark Schwiebert. The downtown park will offer spectacular views of the Mississippi River, and will include an open-air stage, playground areas, interactive fountain, observation shelter, waterfront promenade, bike trail, beautifully landscaped grounds, and other amenities. The Parks and Recreation Department is making special event and activity plans for the park, including a grand opening event as well as family-friendly activities. In addition, the public will be able to reserve park space for reunions, weddings, parties, and other functions. The $10 million park is on target to be completed in Summer 2010. Call 309-732-PARK or visit www.rigov.org for updates.

Community Survey

A citizen survey will be conducted starting the first week of November. Quad City citizens may receive a phone call from PMR Personal Marketing Research, Inc. asking questions about the community. Every two years Renaissance Rock Island conducts citizen phone surveys to learn more about community perceptions, along with how to attract and retain residents, businesses, and visitors to Rock Island. Eight hundred Quad City area residents will be surveyed allowing for a margin of error of +/- 3.5% at a 95% level of confidence. Please consider taking fifteen minutes to answer the questions if you are called. The information helps guide community leaders and target needs in the community.
