Celebration of the Illinois Sierra Club's 50th Anniversary November 10th
Rock Island, Illinois: The Quad City Eagle View Group of the Sierra Club will be hosting a party to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Illinois Chapter of Sierra Club, Tuesday, November 10th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Watch Tower Lodge at Black Hawk Historic Site, 1510 46th Avenue, Rock Island.
50 Environmental FootPrints will be on display highlighting accomplishments of the local Eagle View Group of the Sierra Club in support of the Sierra Club motto Explore, Enjoy and Protect the Planet. "We invite the public to join us in celebrating 50 years of environmental work in Illinois," States Kristen Bergren, Eagle View Group Chair.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration will include music, munchies and the storytelling of John Wallace portraying Sierra Club founder, John Muir.
Sierra Club founder, John Muir, (1838-1914) was America's most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist. He has been called "The Father of our National Parks." "Wilderness Prophet," and "Citizen of the Universe." Actor/storyteller John Wallace will present "The Word According to John Muir," a living history performance of stories, humor and history. John Muir enters the room and the audience is spellbound as an enlightening adventure unfolds.
Since 1892 the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. The Sierra Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the country with over 1.3 million members. The Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club is a statewide organization representing over 23,000 individuals dedicated to protecting the environment and preserving natural resources. The local bi-state Eagle View Group of Sierra Club has been active for 25 years and covers 6 counties of Iowa and Illinois with nearly 700 members.
This event is open to the public. A $5.00 donation is requested. Free to all children and students.
