M-R volleyball team advances to sectional championship

CHILLICOTHE – The Monmouth-Roseville volleyball team advanced to the Class 2A sectional championship after a 25-17, 25-18 win over Brimfield in the Chilliothe IVC Sectional semifinal. "We're very excited where we're at," Titans coach Robin Bell said. "I think we can do it." Monmouth-Roseville (22-14) won Game 1 with ease, but faced an early deficit in the second set. "I know it was a good four or five points off the bat," Bell said. "We would creep back into it, but they would take charge." Despite being down, the Titans got back into the game and eventually took control. "I took a timeout a couple times," Bell said. "I would give them a speech that it was now or never. They just kept working their tails off. They were fighters they never gave up." Now, they meet Chillicothe IVC, a 25-21, 25-16 winner over El Paso-Gridley, in Thursday's 7 p.m. championship. "We're going to just be happy and ride with what we've got right now," Bell said. "I think we'll do fine." Rebecca Gillen had 11 kills, six digs and three blocks and Claire McGuire added six kills and two blocks. Lynsey Weber finished with 12 digs and Taylor Woods dished out 19 assists.
