Atkinson will work out paving payments with county
ATKINSON -- Village board members are hoping to work out a payment plan with Henry County that will permit paving this year of the streets in West View Estates Subdivision, at the west edge of the village.
The board earlier approved spending about $92,000 for the project, with the work to be done by the county. But $30,000 of the budgeted amount was diverted to pay for curb and gutter replacement on the west side of the State Street boulevard.
Mayor August Junior said the cost for the curb and gutter work was about $80,000 and "we did not anticipate spending that amount."
The village received a $50,000 state grant for the curb and gutter project, and in order to complete the project, it was necessary to use some of the money budgeted for West View Estates paving.
"That left a shortfall for our paving project," he said, adding that the board will "try to work out a feasible payment plan with Henry County to do the work before the end of the year."
The board also:
-- Approved spending $1,399 to purchase a new snowblower from B & B Lawn Equipment & Cyclery, Geneseo.
-- Approved hiring Katie VanAntwerp to work part time as water billing clerk, at $9.50 per hour for about 16 hours each week.
