AMBASSADOR ASHER NAIM PRESENTS THE BEHIND THE SCENCES STORY OF OPERATION SOLOMON AT THE MOLINE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities and the Moline Public Library welcome author, humanitarian and retired Israeli Ambassador Asher Naim as he discusses The Behind the Scenes Story of Operation Solomon: The Exodus of Ethiopian Jews to Israel. The talk will take place on Monday, November 23rd at 7:00 p.m., in the Moline Public Library's Gold Meeting Room.

Naim will speak about his work on behalf of Ethiopian Jews during his distinguished diplomatic career. From 1990-1991, he served as Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, a country plagued by civil war and political unrest. During this time, the country's Jewish population faced famine, persecution and violence. Naim was instrumental to the success of Operation Solomon, which ensured the rescue and resettlement of Ethiopian Jews. This daring military operation was responsible for transporting over 14,000 immigrants to Jerusalem in a mere 25 hour span.

For his efforts in Operation Solomon, and his current work with Ethiopian Jews in Israel, Ambassador Naim was recently presented with the 2009 Raoul Wallenberg Humanitarian Award from the American Swedish Historical Museum, Philadelphia. Naim is the author of the 2003 book Saving the Lost Tribe: the Rescue and Redemption of Ethiopian Jews.
