Should Your Business Get LinkedIn or Twitter? And, How the Heck Do You Do That?

Have you found yourself asking, "What exactly are Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook and how can my company use them as effective business tools?" These are the right questions to ask when planning your marketing strategy.

As a Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce "Knowledge at Noon" event, Nehlsen Communications, Moline, IL, will host "Social Media Marketing 101 for Your Business". It will be at the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Dr., from 12-1:30 p.m., Nov. 3, 2009. The event is open to the public, with a $20 registration fee, which includes lunch.

Lee Brinckley, Web Marketing Director at Nehlsen Communications, will inform business owners how to use social media marketing as an effective tool. Some of the topics he will cover include:

· Different kinds of social media and what's best for your business.

· How to get started.

· How to connect with your customers in real-time.

· How to establish yourself as an expert in your industry and boost brand loyalty and recognition.

Brinkley has worked for the past 12 years in web marketing, including web design, web development, search engine optimization, social media, and more.

"Social media is about community," Mr. Brinckley said. "When people see that your business is engaged with their community and that their best interests are in mind, they will follow you. Social media is a great way to connect with current and future customers, as well as build brand loyalty."

In recent years, social networking sites have grown immensely in popularity and not just with the younger generation. According to O"Reilly Media, the number of Facebook users between the ages of 35 and 44 has increased 51 percent. Also, more than half of the 140 million Facebook users are out of college.

Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are some of today's most popular tools for marketing a business. Facebook is a site that hosts individual, group and fan pages, Twitter gives quick, up-to-date information for its followers, and LinkedIn focuses on professional networking. Social networking sites can be a highly cost-effective way to reach out to people and market your business.

"Think of social media as an extension of who you are," Brinckley added.
