What: David R. Collins' Children's Literature Festival

When: Tuesday, October 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Where: The River Center, 136 E. 3rd St., Davnport, IA

Over 700 Quad City children in grades 3rd through 6th will be attending the Children"s Literature Festival to learn from some of the best local authors, illustrators, and storytellers. Included in this year"s cast of presenters are: Carol Gorman, award-winning author from Cedar Rapids; Jill Esbaum, prolific children"s author from Dixon, Iowa; Gary Metivier, award-winning journalist, KWQC-TV 6 news anchor, and author of the hit children"s book Willie"s Wagon; Mike Mickle, former news reporter and anchor who publishes QC Family Focus and has just penned a brand new children"s book; Belinda Holbrook, Davenport author who is known for telling stories with string figures; Duffy De France, a retired Children"s Librarian and member of the Iowa Storytellers Roundtable, Puppeteers of America, and Riverbend Storytelling Guild; Eric Tucker, a former Quad City Times artist and illustrator of Bill Wundram"s Finnius books; and Chris Turnipseed, a Davenport teacher-librarian and member of the Riverbend Storytelling Guild. These festival authors, illustrators, and storytellers will meet with assigned groups to discuss their work, share ideas, and answer questions.

Books and artwork by these authors and illustrators will be available for purchase and autographing. Proceeds from these sales will be used for future festivals.

Also included in the day is a magic show by Rick Eugene.

The David R. Collins Children"s Literature Festival is made possible by grants from the Riverboat Development Authority and Bi-State Literacy Council. Other partners include the Midwest Writing Center and Davenport Public Library.
