ELLIS KELL BAND Celebrates 20 Years of Making Music Together

With Their Appearance at 25th Annual Mississippi Valley Blues Fest

What: Ellis Kell Band at MV Blues Fest

When: Friday, July 3rd, 2009 – 4-5:30 pm

The Ellis Kell Band first started performing in the Quad Cities" area in 1989, backing up Chicago folk bluesman Jim Schwall (co-founder of the Siegel-Schwall Band). The original ensemble included Jim Schwall, Ellis Kell, Dennis Hancq, John Burchett, Rick Stoneking and Jeff Clark. The group decided to stay together after Jim Schwall moved away from the area, and the Ellis Kell Band was born. Their first official outing as the EKB was in Feb. of 1990 at Rascals in Moline, Illinois.

Various members have come and gone over the years, including John O"Meara, Randy Haddock, Jim Stroehle, Mike Frank, Nate Nicholson. Special guests appearing with and recording with the band over the years have included top area players such as Neal Smith, Chris Noth, Rick Maddelein, Tony Hoeppner, Manny Lopez, Matt Podschweit, Frank Claudy and others. The band currently features original members Ellis Kell (guitar/vocals), John Burchett (bass) and Rick Stoneking (keyboards), and ‘Detroit" Larry Davison (harmonica) and Terry Hanson (drums). The band continues to perform select shows, festivals and concert events in region.

The Ellis Kell Band has recorded two CD"s of all original material, "Down to the Levee" (1993), and "Ellis Kell Band & Friends" (2000). The EKB has performed in the midwest at many clubs, concert venues and festivals. Their music has been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows, including "The House of Blues Radio Hour" and "The Red Rooster Lounge".
