Press release submitted by Kreider Services inc.

Illinois Budget Cuts May Devastate Services to People with Developmental Disabilities in the Area.

In the wake of the Illinois General Assembly approving a 50 percent budget effective July 1, 2009 for the Department of Human Services (DHS), many people with disabilities in this area could soon be without services. Kreider Services of Dixon announced today they received an official memorandum from the Illinois DHS instructing agencies across Illinois to brace for major funding cuts. The Division of Developmental Disabilities in DHS will no longer be able to fund Grant Programs such as: Regular work/ Sheltered Employment, Supported Employment, Residential Respite, In-Home Respite Care, Dental Services, Client/Family Support services, and The Autism Program. In addition, Kreider Services stands to see significant rate reductions of 20-30% in all other program funding which include services at 26 residential sites.

Arlan McClain, Executive Director of Kreider Services stated, "This is extremely serious. If this budget is implemented, these cuts will have a devastating consequence for 643 clients and 359 employees on our staff." McClain continued, "Although Kreider Services is but one of many agencies in Illinois that have been asked to endure a dramatic reduction in funding, human services for children and the elderly are also at risk throughout the state. All citizens are asked to contact their legislators to encourage that funding be restored to human services and that cuts be made in non-human service areas first."
