AFRICAN TEXTILE DESIGN CLASS
Figge Art Museum offers special class in conjunction with African Art exhibitions
Davenport IA, March 24, 2009 – Create your own African-inspired textiles in the six-week Figge Art Museum-sponsored class African Textile Design, offered 6:30-8:30 pm Tuesday, April 7-May 12. Students will be introduced to beadwork, printing and resist techniques, and learn about ceremonial use of African fabrics by indigenous people. The class is offered in conjunction with the African art exhibitions Sleeping with the Leopard: African Art from Cameroon and Exploring Pattern in African Cloth, both on view at the Figge Art Museum through June 28. The class will be taught at Augustana College"s Abbey Studio by Augustana College professor and weaver Rowen Schussheim-Anderson. The class fee is $75 for Figge members and $85 for the general public. Students must also pay a $25 materials fee to the instructor at the first class period.
