Press release submitted by Congressman Phil Hare In Response to AIG Bonuses, Hare Supports Legislation to Recover Taxpayer Dollars WASHINGTON, DC-Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) today released the following statement after voting for legislation that would apply a separate income tax rate of 90 percent to bonuses received by individuals from companies which have received at least $5 billion in rescue funds from the federal government. "Words cannot describe my level of anger at the misuse of taxpayer dollars by our nation"s financial institutions. This most recent outrage by AIG is just the latest example of corporate greed run amuck. Today"s legislation will allow the federal government to fully recover these bonuses and send a strong message to every other financial institution that we will not tolerate this kind of behavior."
