American Cancer Society Delivering Hope to Cancer Survivors Statewide This Week
Flowers will be Hand Delivered by Volunteers as Part of Daffodil Days
All this week counties throughout the Quad Cities and central Illinois will be getting into spring fever by delivering hope in the form of beautiful yellow Daffodils to cancer patients, survivors and their families as part of the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days.
PEORIA, IL – American Cancer Society volunteers from all over Central Illinois and statewide will deliver hope to local cancer survivors this week as part of the Society"s annual Daffodil Days campaign.
Throughout Illinois, volunteers will hand deliver bright yellow daffodils – the first flower of spring – to cancer patients and their families. Additionally, "Carrie N. Hope," a limited edition Boyds™ Bear designed exclusively for the Society, will be delivered to children impacted by cancer.
Daffodil Days is an opportunity to show support for cancer survivors and caregivers, and it"s a significant way to raise money and awareness for the support programs available for patients and their families.
Daffodil Days help fund the many programs offered at no charge to cancer patients and their families, while also helping the organization conduct research, educate people on prevention and early detection, and promote laws that fight cancer.
The American Cancer Society"s Patient Navigation Services is designed to fill a critical void in health care and social services by acting as a full-service navigator to anyone touched by cancer. Last year, more than 23,000 new patients and caregivers benefited from these services. This year the Society hopes to assist 27,000 more people throughout the state.
Among the free services the American Cancer Society provides are free rides to treatments, sessions with cosmetologists to help women cope with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation and matching newly diagnosed patients with cancer survivors to help them cope with their diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
This year in Illinois, more than 62,000 Illinois residents will be diagnosed with cancer and nearly 26,000 will die from the disease. The American Cancer Society is working aggressively to reduce these numbers courtesy of the funds raised through Daffodil Days and its other mission-support activities.
The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. The Illinois Division has more than 120,000 volunteers and staff fighting cancer in the state.
