Writer shares story about Puerto Rican infantry unit

Press Release submitted by U.S. Army Garrison - Rock Island Arsenal

Noemi Figueroa Soulet, writer, producer and director of “The Borinqueneers,” a documentary about the all Puerto Rican 65th Infanty Regiment in the Korean war, will speak at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Rock Island Arsenal’s Blackhawk Conference room.

The program is part of the Army Sustainment Command and U.S. Army Garrison, Rock Island Arsenal’s recognition of Hispanic Heritage month.

A special guest at the even twill be Ramon Torres Villafane, an original member of the 65th Infantry Regiment, who volunteered in 1943 at age 18, and served with an anti-aircraft artillery battalion in Panama before become a member of the 65th Infantry at age 24.
