Maquoketa cyclist killed in crash on 53rd

Involved vehicle; Light Blue 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis, Illinois license. Registered owner Linda Hartz of Sterling Illinois.

Vehicle Driver; Robert B Hartz, age 21, also of Sterling Illinois. Possesses a valid Illinois D.L.

Involved Motorcycle; Black 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan Motorcycle, Iowa plate

Involved Motorcycle Rider, age 41, of Maquoketa Iowa. Possessed a valid Iowa Drivers license, valid for MC.

The driver of the motorcycle is identified as Jerry Alan Andresen, 41, of Maquoketa.

At 4:06 Am Saturday August 16th 2008, the black Kawasaki Motorcycle was travelling South on Welcome Way (U.S. 61 South) in the center lane approaching intersection with 53rd St. The involved light blue Mercury Grand Marquis, operated by Robert Hartz, was travelling west bound on 53rd St in the center lane approaching this same intersection. The vehicles both entered the intersection near the same time and the motorcycle impacted the side of the westbound vehicle. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle at impact. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Medic Ambulance to Genesis Hospital East. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the involved vehicle was uninjured. A front seat passenger in the car received minor injury but refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash.

It is believed that alcohol may have been involved in the crash, which remains under investigation by members of the Davenport Police Departments Crash Investigation Unit.
