Funeral services for Naomi Nelson, 88, of Rock Island, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, with the Rev. Joseph D. Williamson III officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Orr’s Mortuary, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church.

She departed this life on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

She was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Warren, Ark., the daughter of John and Millie Henderson. She married McKinley Nelson on June 11, 1942, in Warren. He preceded her in death.

She had been employed at Nabisco Company and the Rock Island County Extension Program. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she served as deaconess president for many years. She was a 4H and a nutrition teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Marie Hammock, Rock Island; sons Arvester (Marjorie) Avery, Rock Island, and Lee Nelson, Orlando, Calif.; sister, Bernice Taylor, Portland, Ore.; brother, Howard Butler, Warren; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
