Roberta Bauman

Roberta Bauman, 63, of 414 10th Ave., Hampton, formerly of Rock Island, died
Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, at Trinity, Medical Center, East Campus, Moline.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Joyce Carlson

No services or visitation will be held for Joyce E. Carlson, 68, Rock Island.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Rock Island.

Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Carlson died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at her residence.

The former Joyce Lindquist was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Iron Mountain, Mich.,
the daughter of Edward E. and Elvira E. Pollar Lindquist. She married Allan
Carlson Oct. 7, 1950, in Rock Island.

She retired from Jaydon, Inc., Rock Island.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, and Women\'s Order of
Eagles 956, Rock Island.

She enjoyed cooking, flowers, bingo, traveling and especially loved spending
time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Allan Carlson, Rock Island; sons, Greg Carlson,
Gary Carlson and Grant Carlson, all of Rock Island; four grandchildren; and a
brother, Edward E. Lindquist Jr., of Colorado. She was preceded in death by
her parents.

Walter Schiermer

Services for Walter Schiermer, 96, of 1209 21st Ave., Rock Island, formerly of
Moline, are 2 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Moline
Memorial Park.

Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to
Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

Mr. Schiermer died Tuesday, December 31, 1996, in Silver Cross Nursing Center,
Rock Island.

He was born Nov. 23, 1900, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of George and Marie
Miller Schiermer. He married Sallie Miller on Sept. 6, 1928, in Davenport. She
died Feb. 25, 1996.

He was a photo engraver for Photo Art and Engraving Co., Moline, for 50 years,
retiring 1975. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline.

He is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine and James Nichols of
West End, N.C., and Elene Miller of Decatur, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jeff
Nichols, Pat Strub, Scott Nichols, and Sue Fallon; and four
great-grandchildren, Jessica and Emily Nichols and Kate and Elizabeth Fallon.

Maylou Weis

Maylou A. Weis, 84, of 1209 21st Ave., Rock Island, died Thursday, Dec. 2,
1996, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Donald `Red\' Knight

Donald Knight, 64, Moline, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Trinity Medical
Center, East Campus, Moline.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in
Greenview Cemetery, Silvis.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

He was born April 26, 1932, in Clinton, the son of Theodore Knight and Garnet
M. Striley. He married Darlene Rossow May 29, 1954.

Survivors include the widow; daughters, Teresa Drace, Moline, Tammy Kuelper,
Colona, and Tracie Sundeen, Coal Valley; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild;
and brothers, Robert Knight, East Moline, and Gerald Knight, Urbana.

George Stenger

George F. Stenger, 86, Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Moline, died Friday,
Dec. 27, 1996, at St. Luke\'s Hospital.

Funeral services were Dec. 30 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to Hawthorne Memorial Garden Fund, Leesburg, Fla., or
the Queen of the Holy Rosary Elevator Fund.

McGilley and Hodge Chapel, Overland Park, handled arrangements.

Mr. Stenger was born Oct. 16, 1910, in McHenry, Ill. He was a member of St.
Paul\'s Catholic Church, Leesburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary
A. Stenger. Survivors include daughters, Georgia M. Cay, Florissant, Mo., Mary
Kay Keemle, East Moline, Sue Ryan, Overland Park, Louanne Bruce, Overland
Park; a brother, Dr. Jack Stenger, South Bend, Ind.; sisters, Margaret Smith,

Walter Wilkerson

Walter H. Wilkerson, 78, of 1806 46th St., Moline, died Thursday, Jan. 2,
1996, at Rosewood Healthcare Center, Moline.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church,
Moline. Prayers will be at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline, at 9:15 a.m.
Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A
Christian wake service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to
the American Cancer Society or the church.

Walter H. Wilkerson was born May 9, 1918, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Walter
and Frances Davidson Wilkerson. He married Carolyn Angaran Oct. 30, 1943, in
Chicago.

He retired after 43 years from AMETEK as a manager in the manufacturing
engineering department in 1976. He also had worked at Swan Engineering and
Machine Shop in Bettendorf for three years as a tool and die maker, when he
was 62.

He was a Navy veteran of WW II. He had served on the USS Jaccard Destroyer
Escort in the South Pacific and had received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon
with one campaign star and other service awards.

He attended Christ the King Catholic Church and had served as president of
AMETEK Credit Union for 25 years.

They spent winters in Texas.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and
Gordon Bloeser, Denver, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Walter H. ``Skip\'\'
and Sheila Wilkerson, Waterloo, Iowa, and Jack and Jackie Wilkerson, Moline;
grandchildren, Tim, Iowa City, Tom, Davenport, David, Moline, Julie, Moline,

Autumn Marie Brasmer, 3-month-old daughter of Michelle Martin, East Moline,
and Chris Brasmer Jr., Moline, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at home.

Oak Grove Cemetery, Port Byron.

Adele C. ``Addie\'\' Higbee, 73, of 528 38th Ave., East Moline, died Thursday,

in Rock Island Memorial Park.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to First

Island.

The former Adele Carlile was born Dec. 11, 1923, in rural Blandinsville, Ill.,
to Howard and Hazel Krieg Carlile. She married Ronald W. Higbee May 14, 1939,
in Palmyra, Mo.

She was employed at the former Schneider\'s Drug Store, Rock Island, for 10
years, retiring in 1980.

She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Rock Island, where she was a
deaconess and church clerk. She was a member and past president of Moline
Ladies of the Elks Lodge 556 and former member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority.

She enjoyed swimming, ceramics, needlework and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Jerry
Custer, Davenport, Ronda McCammon, Columbia, Mo., and Denise and Tom Dreher,
Phoenix, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jan Higbee, Des Moines,
Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Turk, Thousand
Palms, Calif., and Luan Stone, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by a
son, Bennie Rex Higbee, in 1942.

Leslie Baldwin

Leslie N. Baldwin, 93, Aledo, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at the Mercer
County Nursing Home, Aledo.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Aledo. Burial is in
Aledo Cemetery.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Reiser-Trimble Funeral
Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church
or the nursing home.

Mr. Baldwin was born Feb. 28, 1903, in Mercer County, son of Charles and
Nellie Kirby Baldwin. He married Helen Pinkerton Oct. 14, 1925, in Rock
Island. She died Jan. 23, 1985.

He farmed until retiring in 1974. He was a member of First Baptist Church,
Aledo, where he was very active, specifically in the church choir and teaching
Sunday school. He was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau, life member
of the Mercer County Historical Society and past member and past president of
the Aledo Rotary Club.

Survivors include daughters-in-law, Doris Baldwin, Aledo, and Julie Baldwin,
Moline; grandchildren, Stephen Baldwin, Waterloo, Ill., Cathy Anderson,
Normal, Ill., Jeffrey Baldwin, Aledo, Gregory Baldwin, Chicago, Brian Baldwin,
Clinton; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons,
three sisters and four brothers.

Mary Buysse

Mary C. Buysse, 75, Mesa, Ariz., and Longmont, Colo., and a former resident of
Coal Valley, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at her home in Mesa.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Orion. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kirk, Huggins, and Esterdahl Funeral Home,

The former Mary C. Kirley was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Mineral, Ill., the
daughter of George and Margaret Girvin Kirley. She married Dale W. Buysse Feb.
13, 1943, in Sheffield, Ill.

She and her husband lived and farmed in rural Coal Valley until 1972.

She was a member of Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Orion and the
Altar and Rosary of the church. She was a 4-H leader and was an active
participant in the Senior Olympics. She was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Marita and Terry Lough, Orion,
Jean and Mark Douglas, Orion, Jan and Mike Dahl, Osco, Carol Leaneagh,

Louise DeDyne

Louise C. DeDyne, 91, Kewanee, died Monday, Dec. 30, 1996, at Helen McIntire\'s
Care Home.

Services are 8 a.m. Friday at St. Mary\'s Catholic Church, Kewanee, where she
was a member. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee.

Louise Tremont was born Nov. 14, 1905, in Neponset, Ill., to Charles and
Matilda DeVlieger Tremont. She married Morris DeDyne Oct. 20, 1927. He died
May 23, 1980.

She was a homemaker.

Tremont, all of Kewanee.

Gwendolin A. Ernst, 94, rural Geneseo, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, at

John Frye

John Allen Frye, 25, Joy, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, as the result of a
single-car accident west of Aledo.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Jinks Family Funeral Services, Aledo. Burial
is in Aledo Cemetery.

Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at

He was born Feb. 15, 1971, in Davenport, the son of Donald and Linda Long
Frye.

He was a 1989 graduate of Westmer High School, Joy, and attended Black Hawk
College, Moline.

He worked at the former Quinn\'s in Aledo and Mercer Market as assistant
manager. He worked part-time as a delivery man for Pepsi Co. and was currently
assistant manager at the Jubilee Grocery Store in German Town Hills, Ill.

He enjoyed the store, riding his motorcycle, music, weight lifting, sports and
computers. He loved his family, friends and Becky Long.

Survivors include his parents, Donald and Linda Frye, Joy; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Wendy and Terry Sedam, Joy, and Darla and Rae Dixon, Joy;

Mrs. Gallagher died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Lynncrest Manor, Aledo.

Martha Anderson was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Greene Township, Ill., to Arthur and
Bertha Bellinger Anderson. She married George Gallagher December 1930 in
Viola. He died July 22, 1995.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Kalinchinsky, Milan; brothers, Richard
Anderson, Fremont, Neb., and Carl Anderson, Milan; and several nieces and
nephews.

She was a member of the former United Presbyterian Church, Aledo.

She enjoyed music and computers. She loved her friends, family and John Frye.

Warren Mullens

Warren Everett Mullens, 91, Jacksonville, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997,
in Jacksonville.

He retired in 1967 from the former IHC Farmall Works, Rock Island, where he
had been forman in the welding department.

He was a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church; Rock Island Eagles; and
Rock Island Masonic Lodge.

Vernon V. Newman, 76, Houston, Texas, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, in
Houston.

Lester Amman

Lester W. Amman, 88, Bettendorf, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, at Bettendorf
Health Care Center.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial is in
Fulton Township Cemetery.

Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Amman was born Nov. 26, 1908, in Fulton, the son of John J. and Hattie
Buikema Amman. He married Alice I. Spinsby Dec. 17, 1933, in Rock Island.

He owned and operated Amman\'s Royal Blue for 36 years in Fulton.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Rebecca Schaver, Milwaukee; sons,
Douglas Amman, Muncie, Ind., and Paul Amman, Mellen, Wis.; 10 grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Merema, Morrison; and a brother,
Earle Amman, Fulton. Twin sons are deceased.

William Babb

William E. Babb, 93, Davenport, formerly of Millport, Ala., died Thursday,
Jan. 2, 1997, at Crest Health Care Center, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Dowdle Funeral Home, Millport. Burial is in
Kennedy City Cemetery, Kennedy, Ala.

He was born Nov. 19, 1903, in Palmetto, Ala., to Joe and Ella Dorrah Babb. He
married Roberta Porter March 21, 1926, in Kennedy. She died June 26, 1991.

sons, E. Levern Babb, Clanton, Ala., and Herbert Babb, Seattle, Wash.; 11
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Richard Beadle II

Services for Richard Beadle II, 20, Davenport, are 10 a.m. Saturday at

Mr. Beadle died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Genesis Medical Center, East

He was born Nov. 30, 1976, the son of Richard and Linda Young Beadle.

He was interested in playing video games, comic books, WWF wrestling and Star
Wars.

He was the 1985 Muscular Dystrophy Poster Child.

Survivors include his mother, Andalusia; his father, Davenport; grandparents,
Wilfred Beadle and William and Patricia Young, both of Davenport; a sister,

Marguerite Rosali Theodora Campbell, 76, Davenport, died Wednesday, Jan. 1,
1997, at Manor Care Arcadia, Davenport.

Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport,

Marguerite Heidgerken married Eugene Jepsen in 1940. She then married Lynn
Foster Campbell in 1948. He died in 1995.

Davenport, and Laurie Bribriesco, Greenville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Rose Smith, Long Grove; and a brother,

Marie Campbell

Marie Campbell, 66, Provo, Utah, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996, at home.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Grandview 9th Ward Chapel, Provo. Burial is
in Provo City Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Berg Mortuary, 185
E. Center, Provo, or 9 a.m. to services at the chapel. Memorials may go to

Marie Manwaring was born July 2, 1930. She married Jim Campbell in 1949, who
was manager of JC Pennys, Davenport, from 1973 to 1984. She was an active
member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the
auxiliaries. She served as president of the Davenport Ward Relief Society, was
an ordinance worker in Provo Temple and was a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers.

Surviving are her husband; four daughters; three sons; 23 grandchildren; two
sisters; and two brothers.

Marian Eckhardt

Marian Jane Eckhardt, 69, Davenport, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Entombment is
in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.

Visitation 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today with a Daughters of the Nile service

Marian Smith was born July 14, 1927, in Moline, to Calvin and Hulda Mae Karlen

Survivors include the widower; a daughter and son-in-law, Melodie Kimm and
Philip Busch, Blue Grass; sons, Roy Eckhardt, Anaheim, Calif., Michael
Eckhardt, Santa Anna, Calif., Douglas Eckhardt, Rock Island, and Gregory
Eckhardt, Davenport; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three
sisters; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald Lemke

Donald A. Lemke, 79, Eldridge, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, at Genesis
Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial is in
Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran
Church, Eldridge.

Mr. Lemke was born April 7, 1917, in Plankinton, S.D. He married Mildred
Schurr Dec. 8, 1949, in Princeton, Iowa.

He farmed for many years in Scott County and also worked for North Scott
Community Schools.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Michael Smith,
Eldridge; three granddaughters; and a brother, Delvin, Grimes, Iowa. He was
preceded by a son, Donald E., in 1972.

Joseph Lopez

Joseph R. Lopez, 77, Davenport, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1996, at Genesis
Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Visitation is Sunday at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport.

Lillian Reynolds

Lillian E. Reynolds, 90, of Ridgecrest Village, Davenport, formerly of Moline,
died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus,
Davenport.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline.
Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation will be Sunday 3 to 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Meals on
Wheels Program.

Lillian E. Parsons was born May 15, 1906, in Waverly, Kan., the daughter of
Wright and Grace Cook Parsons. She married W. Ben Eldredge Aug. 14, 1931, in
Savanna, Ill. He died in 1944. She married Merle E. Reynolds July 10, 1963, in
Davenport, Iowa. He died Oct. 28, 1994.

She retired in 1972 from Continental Baking Co., Wonder Bread, in Davenport,
Iowa, from the accounting department after 22 years of service.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Davenport, Iowa.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Jay Eldredge,
Davenport; grandchildren, Cindy Craft, Beth George, Michelle Eldredge, Julie
Henkle and Zachary Eldredge; seven great-grandchildren; and stepgrandchildren,
Brenda Nicholson, Troy, Nicholson, Dana Nicholson, Julie Teetz and Wendy
Essary. She was preceded by a son, Ben C. Eldredge, in October of 1955.
